Coastline Adventures Surfing School of New Jersey has been accredited by the National Surf Schools and Instructors Association. Our lead instructors, Jennifer Steffener and Lance Tompkins participated in a comprehensive course and passed testing, interviews and evaluations to become certified NSSIA instructors. We are a fully Certified NSSIA School with Certified NSSIA Instructors! Coastline Adventures Surfing School is the only NSSIA Certified School in Ocean and Monmouth Counties, NJ. Jennifer is one of the first women in New Jersey to become a Certified Senior Level NSSIA Instructor and Lance is one of the first in New Jersey to become a Master Level Certified NSSIA Instructor. Lance is also certified to teach the NSSIA course.
Coastline Adventures Surfing School of New Jersey has been creating the ultimate surfing experience for men, women and kids of all ages and athletic abilities since 1995. With over 3,500 lessons taught and 15 years experience, we have a well-earned reputation for supportive, friendly and professional service, attention to detail and highly effective teaching methods. We believe in educating surfers about the importance of safety and respect for ourselves and others both in and out of the water. We encourage and bring awareness to our students about our oceans, wildlife and environment. We love to share our passion and knowledge about the lifestyle, cultural heritage and the phenomenal art of wave riding!
Our knowledgeable, caring and fun staff has over 20 years combined surf instruction experience. We have surfed the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Fiji and other spots around the world. All instructors are First Aid and CPR Certified and have a minimum of 10 years personal surf experience. Our Lead instructors are also Water Safety Certified.
Owner, Lance Tompkins, has been teaching surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding for over 15 years he is a Master Level Certified Surfing Instructor (NSSIA) and he has has been riding for 38 years! He created Coastline Adventures Surfing School of New Jersey in 1995 because he wanted to share his love of surfing with others. Lance wanted to offer a safe and easy way for people to learn this challenging sport. His 38 year career in board sports has included many surfing and skateboarding contests, fundraisers, endorsements and product testing. He has been photographed for various surfing and skateboarding magazines, and local newspapers. Glen Friedman of the ‘Dogtown’ movie has also photographed Lance skateboarding and included his picture in his best seller autobiography. Lance has been recently featured in the new surfing film, “Drawing Lines”. In 2006 he was featured in the TV show "whata you do", shown on the USA Network............
Owner, Jennifer Steffener, is Level 3 Certified Surfing Instructor for the NSSIA and one of first women to achieve this status in New Jersey. She is also a Certified Massage Therapist and Tai Chi/Qi Gong instructor and has been working and teaching in the health and fitness field for over 16 years. She owns a successful massage and wellness center in northern New Jersey and has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles about surfing, massage and tai chi. Jennifer combines her passion for surfing and her vast knowledge of the body and movement to create a unique teaching style that inspires and motivates. Her teaching style, attention to detail and ability to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere has earned her the reputation for New Jersey's premier women's surf camp. Jennifer is an avid water woman and has over 25 years of ocean, body boarding and surfing experience. She lived in Hawaii for 8 years where she fell in love with Hawaii and its people. During her time in Kauai she learned to sail, scuba dive, ocean kayak and took her surfing and body boarding to highest levels. Jennifer loves to travel, snowboard, skateboard and play Tai Chi and other martial arts when she is not playing in the ocean.
