You must arrive 15 minutes early for your scheduled activity with us. Be sure to plan extra time to accommodate heavy summer traffic, limited parking, travel logistics, and check-in. Anyone arriving 15 minutes late or later to the start time of their scheduled activity runs the risk of not being permitted to join, treated as a no show, and not entitled to refund or credit.
Your safety and enjoyment are our number one concern. If your scheduled activity needs to be cancelled, rescheduled, or delayed due to inclement weather (heavy rain and/or thunderstorms), high winds, and/or dangerous water conditions, we will advise you by text and/or email, and if needed, phone. While we do our best to provide you with advance notice, PLEASE keep in mind we can’t predict or control the weather. Sometimes we have to cancel, reschedule, or delay the same day as your scheduled activity as conditions may (and often do) change overnight or throughout the day.
If the weather is good but we are unable to enter the water due to dangerous conditions or high winds, we will still hold your scheduled activity. We will practice on land with conditioning and interactive games and drills, surfing or stand up paddleboarding safety, surf and weather reports, surfing or stand up paddleboarding history and culture, environmental education, and more.
Note to surfers only: We surf rain or shine! Rain can actually make the conditions better, and you’re getting wet anyway.
The SCHOOL DIRECTOR will make the final decision to cancel, reschedule, or delay your scheduled activity due to inclement weather, high winds, and/or dangerous water conditions.
There are no refunds, partial refunds, or credits issued if your service is cancelled due to inclement weather, high winds, and/or dangerous water conditions. You will be provided with the opportunity to reschedule.
Coastline Adventures Surfing School chooses to limit the number of guests in each activity to ensure your safety and enjoyment and provide a quality experience. As a courtesy to our waitlisted guests and pre-scheduled instructors, please observe our cancellation policies.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your booking, please provide 24 hours or more advance notice. There is a $25 cancellation fee plus any booking fees paid for ALL cancelled services. To ensure time and date stamp accuracy and avoid unnecessary fees, all cancellation and rescheduling requests MUST be submitted in writing to jennifer@njsurfschool.com.
There are no refunds, partial refunds, or credits issued if:
- your service is cancelled due to inclement weather, high winds, and/or dangerous water conditions. You will be provided with the opportunity to reschedule.
- you cancel within 0 – 24 hours of your scheduled activity
- you fail to show up for your scheduled activity
- you are absent, arrive late, leave early, or choose not to participate in any or all of your scheduled activity
- you purchased a gift certificate or multi-lesson package. Multi-lesson packages are non-transferable and must be used within the season they were purchased.
Specific cancellation policies for groups, clubs, and private and corporate group lessons will be outlined in your contract.
In case of illness or health related incidents, refund requests should be submitted in writing and accompanied by a doctor’s note to jennifer@njsurfschool.com. All refunds are subject to the school director’s approval only and are never guaranteed.
Coastline Adventures Surfing School reserves the right to dismiss any participant from their scheduled activity if they present a safety concern or medical risk to themselves or others; is unable to listen and/or follow directions; is disruptive; behaves inappropriately; is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol; and/or breaches any agreement included in our registration, assumption and acknowledgement of risks, and release of liability and indemnity agreement. If a participant is dismissed for any reason(s) listed above, there will be no refund or credit issued.
Our school and lead instructors have been evaluated, approved, and certified every year by the National Surf School and Instructor Association. Our lead instructors are Master Level Surfing and Stand Up Paddleboarding Instructors and at least one Master Level Instructor is present during all scheduled activities. All of our experienced instructors hold current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications and have received extensive internal training. We believe in progressive skill building, which provides participants with the experience of success and confidence building through accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
Our surfing and bodyboarding school is located at a safe, sand bottomed beach protected by highly trained lifeguards. We work closely with the local lifeguards to ensure your safety. Our surfing camps and clinics utilize a 4:1 student to instructor ratio and our bodyboarding camps have a 3:1 student to instructor ratio, which allows us to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment and create a more personalized experience.
Our stand up paddleboarding school is located in the Barnegat Bay at a safe, enclosed flat water cove. Our stand up paddleboarding camps and clinics use a 5:1 student to teacher ratio to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment and create a more personalized experience.
All private and semi-private surfing and stand up paddleboarding lessons are taught by one of our lead instructors.
All of our equipment is safety checked and disinfected prior to use and sized accordingly to height, weight, and skill level. We use high-quality foam, round nosed surfboards and paddleboards, and foam bodyboards. They are specifically made to be the safest, high-performance equipment available for beginner and intermediate surfers, paddlers, and bodyboarders.
Coastline Adventures has many years of experience and is passionate about working with children who have special needs. Prior to booking your child’s activity, we request that you contact us in advance so we can learn more about your child, determine if your child would thrive in either a camp or a private lesson environment, staff accordingly, and determine if the water/ocean conditions are safe. This is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of both your child and our other guests.
We provide all of your equipment!
Surfing: surfboard, leash, and rash guard/wetsuit (if needed)
Bodyboarding: bodyboard, leash, life vest, and rash guard/wetsuit (if needed)
Stand Up Paddleboarding: paddleboard, leash, paddle, life vest, and rash guard/wetsuit (if needed)
You may bring your own equipment. Our instructors will determine if your equipment is both safe and appropriate for you to use. Please note we do not permit personal fiberglass or epoxy surfboards in any of our surf camps for the safety of all participants.
It’s important that you feel comfortable either in the bay or ocean, depending on your chosen activity. For a fulfilling and positive experience, we ask that you are a competent swimmer and in reasonably good physical condition.
Swimming is one of the most useful ways of getting into shape for any water sport. Swimming works most of the main muscle groups needed and builds stamina. Cycling, running, walking, yoga, and any workout with an emphasis on cardio and strengthening your core will benefit you. You won’t regret any extra time you put in to ‘train’ for your experience, as your rewards will be plentiful. However, don’t worry if you do not have the ‘time’ to physically prepare for your surf experience. We will accommodate you to ensure you have a fabulous time! And your participation just may be the jump-start that you have been looking for to incorporate fitness into your daily life.
About 80% of our students have never surfed before. Our Kid’s Surf Adventure Camps, Women’s Surf Retreat, and Co-Ed Adult Surf Camps provide a dynamic curriculum that is tailored for both beginner and intermediate surfers. The only prerequisites are that you are comfortable in the ocean and can swim and you’re ready to have a good time.
Most of our surfing camps and clinics are designed for the beginner through intermediate surfer. We recommend you choose a 1-on-1 private surfing lesson or our multi-lesson Experience Surfing package. During your private lesson(s), we will assess your current skill set and create a personalized experience, which will include coaching, training drills, ways to improve your fitness level, and techniques you can practice on your own.
It’s important to know anything can happen while you’re out on the water. By learning and observing proper standards of conduct and paddling safely and intelligently, you will significantly reduce the opportunity for conflicts and hazards. Learning proper paddling and self-rescue techniques, reading and understanding the waterways, and being proficient in safety skills are extremely important to ensure your safety and enjoyment while stand up paddleboarding.
Creating a proper foundation of paddling skills and water knowledge will set the stage for many wonderful paddle experiences and if you choose, a stepping stone towards SUP racing and/or SUP surfing.
